Black screen or flicker after an NVIDIA update
Check whether Windows still boots, then try settings, an official clean installation, and only then consider a previous driver.
1. Check whether Windows still boots
If you can sign in, back up important files and close graphics workloads. If not, use Windows recovery first.
2. Use NVIDIA custom clean installation
Use Custom Installation and the clean-install option to reduce conflicts with previous settings.
When only a specific game crashes after an NVIDIA update
Check the game-specific known issues, then evaluate a clean install or a return to the last working driver.
1. Check the game-specific release-note entries
First check whether the affected game appears in the driver’s open or fixed issue list.
2. Clean-install only when setup failure or corruption is plausible
Use NVIDIA’s manual clean-install procedure only when installation failed or the existing driver setup may be damaged. Do not reinstall solely because one game crashed.
